Fabrics
I am so excited! The fabric for my chainse/undergown came in and it’s perfect. Here is the story behind the elevation outfit:
1. Red and gold trim.
This started life as a table runner and was an eBay find that I got for a few dollars. It’s been in my stash for 3 years at least.
2. Gold “embroidered” bliaut — looks like 12th century samite
This was a — wait for it — Freecycle find. Actually, I found it on the curb on trash day when I was walking my dog! I literally ran home to get my car so I could come back and pick it up! “It” was drapery and bolsters. It is therefore a mystery fabric but will do just fine as a bliaut/overgown. I’ve had it for 2 years, and to be frank it was in my Laurel hope chest.
3. Red and gold chainse/undergown
I ordered this silk blend through eBay. It’s not possible to know exactly what the fabric looks like, so when I opened the box I was delighted. It matches the gold of the bliaut and the trim perfectly! Yea!
The vigil outfit is also going well — this is a navy blue bliaut that I already made and a pretty blue-green stripe. I’m not altogether sure about the stripe in the early 12th century, but I think it will be fine.
And just for fun, the “ermine” lined mantle that I made for Pentathlon from the gold fabric.
